Job Description
At Literacy First, we teach young children how to read, equipping them to excel in life and realize their dreams. We view literacy as a human right and envision a world in which every child has the opportunity to become a confident, lifelong reader.


Since 1994, we have partnered with public, Title I elementary schools and community organizations to offer our high-impact, one-to-one tutoring program to emerging readers in kindergarten, first, and second grade. We use an explicit, research-based curriculum of scripted lesson plans to target critical reading skills through daily literacy lessons. Tutors receive training as well as personalized coaching support to feel confident and supported in their role

What's Involved?
- Conduct 20-30-minute one-on-one tutoring sessions with K-2nd grade students, at your assigned campus, using Literacy First curriculum
- Maintain organized and proper documentation of all lesson plans
- Administer assessments to identify students that qualify for Literacy First tutoring
- Assess and record students' progress using weekly progress monitoring probes
- Collect and enter student data on our Information Management System
- Attend data meetings with campus staff to communicate student progress
- Build positive, encouraging relationships with students to promote lesson engagement through motivation and behavior support
- Communicate effectively with Literacy First staff, school staff, and teammates
- Attend pre-service training and ongoing literacy trainings throughout the year
- Tutors serve for a 9-month term from September 1, 2026 through May 28, 2027

3 positions are available:
36 hours per week: Monday - Friday from 7:30 AM to 2:30 PM
30 hours per week: Monday - Friday from 7:30 AM to 1:30 PM
20 hours per week: Monday - Friday from 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM

AmeriCorps Requirements:
- U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident
- 17 years or older
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Pass a criminal background check
- Commitment to serve 9 months, September 1, 2026 through May 28, 2027
o This includes daily tutoring, program trainings, and 2 weekend/evening service projects
- AmeriCorps members can serve 4 terms, we value members who hope to return for multiple years
Additional Considerations:
- Tutors will walk to classrooms on their assigned campus in between tutoring sessions to bring students to and from the tutoring area.
- Tutors will be sitting for most of their work time interacting with students.
- Tutors must be able to direct a lesson and maintain focus in an environment where other tutoring sessions will be taking place and the noise level may be distracting at times.

The Landscape Maintenance Crew Member is an entry-level crew member in Maas Verde's Maintenance Division responsible for working with other team members on regular maintenance visits which will include, but will not be limited to, the following : invasive species and weed removal by hand, seasonal cleanups, and sometimes small installation projects for existing and new maintenance clients.



Candidates with experience working with native plants and/or sustainable, ecologically friendly landscaping are strongly encouraged to apply - anyone with a willingness to learn about this beautiful and interesting branch of our native environment are also encouraged to apply.


Responsibilities

Experienced in lifting heavy objects, using hand tools, constantly kneeling, crouching, squatting, pushing, pulling, and walking

Experienced in planting small, medium, and large plants including groundcover, shrubs, and small trees

Experienced in trimming and removing weeds, dead plants and trees, and other general landscaping maintenance duties

Experienced in invasive grass and plant management through trimming, pruning, removal, and herbicide application

Experienced in operating hand tools, power tools, and heavy machinery to effectively complete a given task

Experienced in working in a team to move large quantities of different landscaping materials around the job site

Experienced in working on irrigation systems under the supervision of a licensed irrigator will also be valued





Qualifications

Non-Negotiable for ALL Positions:

Authorized to work in the US and able to provide proof

Punctuality and consistency are both critical values of the Maas Verde Maintenance Division - our clients have us at their homes, and it's very important that the successful candidate is punctual, works with integrity and is able to provide a consistent presence to our regular maintenance clients and their colleagues

NO SMOKING on client's property or while actively touching/installing plant material

Upon offer, employees will be required to complete and pass a pre-employment background and MVR check

Must have Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record and reliable transportation

All field employees must complete First Aid/CPR and OSHA 10 courses upon hire, or submit current proof of certification within the first 90-days of employment

Ability to lift, move, and maneuver heavy objects.

Ability to follow instructions

Education/Experience:

Level of Education: High School Graduate or GED
1-3 years' experience in any of the following: landscaping, groundskeeping, arborist work, or irrigation.

Work Environment:

Outdoor work environment while performing the duties of this job, the Landscape Maintenance Crew Member is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.

Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration.

Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions.

The noise level in the work environment is sometimes loud.
